Herbalism?
An Opinion
There has been this great emergence of herbalism in recent years. As a society I think we have realised the detriment of chemicals to our health. Being healthy is the balancing aspect of its ok to eat something like a hostess cupcake but maybe balance it with a green tea, but nonetheless it’s okay to have treat once in a while. My Friend the Herbalist is here to show that there is science in herbalism and that the truth is much of the modern medications we use stemmed from traditional knowledge. I think it’s important to ask:
“What is herbalism and how can it assist me in my life.”
Herbalism is a great way to supplement a healthy lifestyle. Herbalism is the usage of herbs and other natural plants to aid in the overall health of an individual, through different preparations. From just adding teas filled with added vitamins to an interest in salves and tinctures. Herbalism aids in boosting the bodies natural ability to protect itself.
With the re-emergence of herbalism one might ask where did it go? The truth is that it never left. Herbs and the healing traditions are still being passed down through generations both in spoken (oral) traditions and written recipes. But the issue has been and always will be the denying idea that traditions aren’t real science. That is why it is so important to understand the science behind the herbs and how they work.
It is accessible. It is in the food we eat everyday, the spices in our cabinets, and plants that many call weeds in the backyard. There are healthy ways of wildcrafting ( herbalist term for collecting herbs and plant material from out doors instead of farming or purchasing). I advise everyone to look up their growing seasons and check out all the natural medicine that grows around them.
They key is to learn how to achieve health in the simplest ways possible. I know it sounds cliche, but it’s a lifestyle not just a chore. It does start with one choice. The simpler the better. Add and extra veggie to your meal.
You and only you can make the change happen. Either you count yourself as already healthy and want to expand your knowledge from just food and exercised based health. Or you could be looking for that first step to becoming a healthy person and reducing processed food in your diet. Both are great starts and I am PROUD of you for making the choice to a healthier lifestyle. Remember herbalism works great in conjunction with modern medication, as a way of healing the whole body.
